The Life Skills Program acknowledges the personal benefits derived from independence and feelings of competence in daily living. Keeping in mind the development of the individual as a whole, the Life Skills program uses a variety of simulated environments and teaching/training sessions to provide individuals with opportunities to increase their independent living skills. Life Skill activities will include teaching/information sessions, role playing, demonstrations and hands-on participation. The program offers teaching/training in a wide range of topics including but not limited to:
- Personal care (hygiene, grooming, appropriate dress)
- Social interactions (manners, social boundaries, emotional management, friendship)
- Independent living skills (meal planning and preparation, budgeting, recycling)
- Good health habits (nutrition, exercise and stress management)
- Personal safety (appropriate boundaries, stranger danger, and identifying dangerous practices)
