Keeping in mind the development of the individual as a whole, the Functional Skill Development Program through various teaching / training activities and strategies supports and provides opportunities for the development of independence in basic self-help, discrimination, motor and sensory skills, and to provide opportunities for individuals to promote and enhance their well-being.
The program acknowledges that all needs are specific to the individual and as such may need to be addressed in a unique manner. The Functional Skill Development Program is usually delivered in small group format however participants requiring additional support to participate effectively in training/activities or needing individualized assistance to develop specific skills can purchase support appropriate to those needs.
Skills focused on through this programming include but are not limited to:
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Identification and discrimination
- Communication
- Socialization
- Behavioural needs and daily living/self-help needs (eating, toileting etc)
Clients participating in the Functional Skill Development Programming may also participate in Vocational and Life Enrichment program activities at a level appropriate to their needs and the supports provided.
